Triple H-Undertaker III is the best match possible
The final segment of Raw confirmed what we had believed to be the case for some time now: HHH would indeed face off against the Undertaker for the second consecutive WrestleMania, and third bout between the two at The Grandest Stage of Them All.
Almost as soon as Undertaker emerged from the blacklights and smoke, it seemed the wrestling world let out a collective groan over the Deadman and The Game facing off one more time. From complaints of the third match between the two, to Triple H even being in a WrestleMania match, for a match that was seen coming long down the road, there was a lot of angst when the actual plan came to fruition.
Is HHH-Undertaker III the most imaginable scenario ever? Not by a long shot. But it will be entertaining, and if Shawn Michaels is involved in some capacity it will allow for something different from the two other battles. Most importantly, though, this match is best scenario when one considers the other talent on the card.
Prior to the Royal Rumble there were some talks of WWE changing their plans and going with Undertaker facing off against Chris Jericho at ‘Mania, meaning that HHH would fight CM Punk. All the people I’ve spoken with that are disappointed with HHH-Taker were excited when Jericho hit Punk with the codebreaker during Monday’s match between Daniel Bryan and CM Punk. It seemed as if the ball is now rolling on a feud between the two, and though those two have fought each other before, they never have in a singles competition at WrestleMania, and never have competed with CM Punk at this level of fame. The two have always been great on the mic, so in addition to a stellar match, we’re going to be entertained by the back and forth between the two. Jericho has the ability to match Punk for each one of his verbal jabs, and vice versa. It’s something fresh on WWE’s biggest event, more of what Punk was talking about when he talked about change throughout this summer.
Now take all the great potential Jericho-Punk has and compare that to HHH-Punk. Yes, Hunter does have a great track record of putting over talent at WrestleMania, but WWE already dropped the moment to elevate Punk even higher by having him lose to Triple H at Night of Champions. At this point it is just best to move on from that mistake and let it go, plus Punk and HHH at ‘Mania most likely would have guaranteed more of Johnny Ace getting involved, and based off how that hurt the match between Dolph Ziggler and CM Punk at the Rumble, it’s better Vince and company don’t go that route.
It is also best served for the importance of keeping the titles relevant, that Triple H, Undertaker and other part-timers stay away from championship matches. WWE already did a good job keeping the belt off Cena as he heads into Miami with his match against The Rock, and it’s good to see the company continue this with Undertaker and Triple H. While the third bout between these two legends may not be what everyone wants to see, it’s the best match possible for the WWE.
